Here is what it looks like on a iPhone 6:
As you can see the website does not look different on a small screen, modern websites will scale on small screens to be better readable and easy to use, this is called Responsive web design.
Below you see the header and menu, there are many items and it is not clear wich pages are the most important. The menu also features a big dropdown for sub-pages wich does not work well on touch screens.
The header also features a big ad for Adam's beer, whilst I understand Adam wants to sell a lot, this is probably a too prominent place for this ad.
Sliders are fine, they can be nice to showcase your latest content, however the slider on the ACS homepage is very small and does not work well on mobile.
The images and text in the slider are very small and dont really trigger visitors to click on it.
The main content is a long list of various updates, some links open a other page, some go to the iTunes store and even others go to a different website!
Users want to know where a link will go before they click it.
The events area features a list of events that you can click though, wich is nice, but the buttons don't reall appear to be part of the list.
The text in the events area is all the same color and very hard to read. Finally the images used are all the same, no real need to show them.
I get it, ads are needed, we need to keep the ACS pirate ship afloat!
But by having all the ads together like this it is easy to ignore them and it looks very messy!
It would be better to show less ads but on more prominent places.
So here is my concept for a new site, I use basically the same content and images but try to structure them in a cleaner and more spacious way.
I made the menu more prominent with less items, and added a second smaller menu for less important links. This also allows space for other needed links or specials in the header.
I dropped the slider and use the nice image of Adam for the stage, added big Call To Action buttons to the two most important things: the episode player and the premium membership link.
The new stage also allows for some nice content to let new visitors know what the hell this website is about.
Added a nice Latest Shows section after some great feedback from the Adam Carolla community on Reddit!
The idea is that you can slide to the latest 3-5 shows, the section dupports space for some content a good quality image and Call To Action buttons.
Below the stage I added a narrow red banner to show the IPA add, it is very prominent but does not break the layout of the page.
Below the ad another section for social media links. Since getting new listeners is very important for The Adam Carolla Network this deserves a very prominent spot.
The next section is the main content of the site, events and updates.
I made sure to give the items more space and to add buttons that are easy to spot and that describe where they will go: iTunes/the payer/a page.
Time for some ads, I just show 3 in a row. This way the ads look nice but don't break the look and feel of the page. Even better, they probably will be clicked on more.
This section is for the links to other shows, I made it prominent ans centered the items.
Finally I add a footer with links to most of the pages. There is space here for a lot more if needed.
So below you can see my concept, I really hope you all like it and welcome any feedback or questions about it!
At request, here the iPhone 6 layout.
DISCLAIMER This redesign is not done at the request of the Adam Carolla Show, it is simply a showcase of what I would do with the site if Any Screen Size was to redesign it.
